Bringing Back the Colouring-in Book

Every once in a while we all need a day to unwind. Or even just a few hours.

After a cold but beautifully clear winter in Sydney, the rain arrived yesterday and has set in for the week. I don’t know about you but when it rains my productivity and mood drops pretty much instantly! All I want to do is curl up in bed or watch endless hours of videos, but today I was determined to not let myself waste it!

lazy day

I did have quite a busy weekend so while I had today off I thought I would treat myself and just rejuvenate a little bit.

Last week I bought myself a colouring in book which I have seen so many people loving. I know what you are thinking… ‘colouring in? How old are you?’ but hear me out! Growing up I could colour in for hours and even during my school years I did a lot of art. Now that I’ve finished school I have a lot more time yet I never set myself down and just create something. There is something very therapeutic about colouring in. It doesn’t take a lot of brain power but you are still working the brain a little and brightening up your day at the same time.

So today I lit some candles, put on my ‘chill out’ music playlist, got out some pencils and just coloured in the beautiful designs. I admit I didn’t get terribly far but even doing it for a little time relaxes your body and is also a good way to reflect or clear your head.

The book I used is Millie Marotta’s ‘Animal Kingdom’. It is a lovely book with beautiful and intricate designs. Quite cute as a coffee table book or just to bring out when you need to clear your head a little.

How do you brighten your rainy days?

Coloring is so strangely relaxing, isn’t it? I really enjoy chilling out with coloring books of late–and it is perfect for a rainy day, as you say! I actually had not seen Millie Marotta’s books before so I’ll have to track down one of my own: the pages you showed in your pictures are so detailed and gorgeous 🙂
